Style Edit: How Richard Mille’s RM UP-01 Ferrari and RM 07-04 Automatic Sport break limits, from thinnest timepiece to the Swiss maison’s first women’s watch – high jumper Yuliya Levchenko wears one
- The RM 07-04 Automatic Sport comes in six different versions, each taking cues from the sporting experiences of top women athletes, like golfer Nelly Korda
- Richard Mille’s partnership with the Italian sports car maker is reflected in the RM UP-01 Ferrari’s aesthetics and dashboard-style dial, and use of lightweight parts
For that reason, the brand has earned its claim to be a “racing machine on the wrist”, and never have there been two more dramatic and distinctive examples of this uncompromising philosophy than the RM UP-01 Ferrari and RM 07-04 Automatic Sport.
As its name suggests, the first of those is the result of a collaboration with another maker of the ultimate racing machines: Ferrari. The two beloved brands came together to craft a watch of mind-blowing, record-breaking proportions: at just 1.75mm thick, it is the slimmest wristwatch ever produced.
That was made possible by the integration of the case into the movement, and the reduction of the thickness of the latter to just 1.18mm. Weighing in at just 2.82 grams, the movement is capable of withstanding acceleration of more than 5,000 G’s, and still manages to boast a power reserve of 45 hours. The partnership with Ferrari is reflected in the timepiece’s slimline aesthetics and dashboard-style dial, and in the materials it’s made from, particularly the use of lightweight, resilient titanium for the case and parts of the movement.
Sports stars from the racetrack to the running track, meanwhile, helped to inspire the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport. The company’s first women’s sports watch, it comes in a case made from either Quartz TPT or Carbon TPT, ensuring its toughness. Behind an openworked dial, it’s powered by the new CRMA8 calibre.
