Parisian jewellery maison Cartier has unveiled a revamped boutique in Causeway Bay incorporating elements that recall Hong Kong’s classic scenes and nature – and it’s giving festive fun for Christmas

With meticulously appointed interiors, impeccable service and, of course, unmatched selections of glamorous goods, every Cartier boutique is a sacred space for lovers of luxury. But the storied Parisian jeweller’s boutique at Lee Garden Five in Causeway Bay has reached new heights of sophistication with its recent upgrade.

The newly refurbished store was unveiled at a glittering opening party on Friday, December 13. The 839 square metre duplex has re-emerged as a striking visual tribute to the city it calls home.

Conceptualised by French architecture firm Moinard Bétaille, the boutique’s design draws on Hong Kong’s culture, with features that echo the shape of unmistakable local sights like the sails of traditional junk boats, the Chinese birdcages of local markets, and the towering edifices that define the city’s skyline – along with plentiful nods to the lush greenery of the city’s mountains.

Inside, visitors will encounter a series of themed areas, each showcasing unique aesthetic nods to Hong Kong. Guests enter the boutique in the Feminine Universe area, which is inspired by Chinese gardens and features an orchid mural in straw marquetry that was created in collaboration with French painter Cédric Peltier.

Straw marquetry shows up again in the Unisex & Masculine Universe spaces, where the house’s trademark Panthère rules the roost in a shade of vibrant blue that recalls Hong Kong’s waters. Nodding to a different element of local culture, the Prestige Universe – home to Cartier’s high jewellery collections – features a triptych of lacquered wood wall panels designed by Paris’ Atelier Midavaine, showing birds fluttering around a Tree of Life.

On the grand staircase leading to the glasshouse-inspired upper floor, a six-metre-tall plaster bas-relief feature wall depicts three Cartier Panthères prowling through classic scenes of Hong Kong.
