Style Edit: Rolex’s equestrian connection with CHI Geneva – Testimonees Steve Guerdat, Martin Fuchs and Richard Vogel compete at this year’s showjumping event
Witness the world’s best show jumpers compete at CHI Geneva, a tradition since 1926, with Rolex’s unwavering support
Few events capture the grandeur and precision of showjumping like the Concours Hippique International de Genève (CHI Geneva), which runs this year until December 15. Each December, Geneva’s Palexpo arena comes alive as the world’s top riders and their remarkable horses gather to compete in this celebrated event that has been at the heart of competitive showjumping since 1926. As the most significant show on the equestrian calendar, CHI Geneva is further elevated by its enduring partnership with Rolex – a brand synonymous with precision, elegance and tradition.
Rolex’s commitment to equestrian sports can be traced back to 1957, when it named Olympic show jumper Pat Smythe as its first Testimonee, a title reserved for its most esteemed ambassadors. Smythe wasn’t just a remarkable athlete, she was a pioneer who brought showjumping into the public eye, setting a standard that resonates still today. Since that time, Rolex’s role in the sport has extended beyond sponsorship, reflecting a deep respect for equestrian tradition and the skill each rider brings to the arena.
As CHI Geneva’s presenting sponsor, Rolex’ presence is woven into every aspect of the show – from the prestigious International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC) Top 10 Final to the celebrated Rolex Grand Prix. These headline events are benchmarks where the world’s finest riders compete for ultimate honours.
At this year’s show, the star-line-up of riders includes a trio of Rolex Testimonees who represent the best of showjumping. Speaking about the event, Swiss Olympic champion and three-time Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final winner Steve Guerdat says: “The Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final is unique. When you qualify to take part, you feel rewarded and proud as it signifies that you have performed amazingly throughout the year with all your horses. It is a remarkable feeling competing in this unique class and the drive to win fuels your performance.”
Fellow Swiss rider Martin Fuchs, the 2019 Rolex Grand Prix winner, shares a similar affection for the event. “The CHI Geneva is my home show which can add a lot of pressure, however being able to perform at my best with this pressure and win gives me additional motivation,” says Fuchs, who remains among the top contenders for honours.
