The brand’s founder was herself very active, so Chanel has harnessed this legacy to its high jewellery know-how with a bold use of colour and innovative pairings of metals and stones

Chanel’s latest high jewellery collection, Haute Joaillerie Sport, is a timely nod to the past. Specifically, it channels the spirit of 1921 when founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel – a keen equestrian, skier, tennis player and dancer – began making sports clothing.

Then, the brand’s founder was inspired by the wish to embrace women’s new-won freedoms of the time, and today’s range is similarly fired by the spirit of sport rather than being focused on any one discipline.

Sporting elements are expressed in surprising ways through the use of strikingly colourful gems and innovative combinations of metals and stones.
