  • Messika tapped French singer Carla Bruni to rep its latest high jewellery collection, Midnight Sun, which is inspired by 70s icons like Freddie Mercury, Diana Ross, Andy Warhol and Liza Minnelli
  • The maison’s founder Valérie Messika called the theme ‘electric and daring’, and it shows – from the stylish Glitter Fever set and fierce Fiery pieces to the heart motifs in Joy Cœur

Messika’s latest high jewellery collection – Midnight Sun – draws inspiration from the bright lights and wild nights of 1970s’ nightclubs. And in keeping with its spirit, the maison has chosen French model and singer Carla Bruni as its ambassador to bring the collection to life.

“With Midnight Sun, Messika showcases the fascinating history of these unparalleled celebrations,” says brand founder, Valérie Messika. “The night spots of the time were the culminating point of all the antagonisms and extravagances. Spaces far from conventions, whose hypnotic spirit continues to be a source of inspiration and desire. Who better than the magnetic Carla Bruni to embody this electric and daring theme?”

Central to the collection are yellow diamonds – symbolic of the kings and queens of the night. Comprising five themes and jewellery sets, each piece in the Midnight Sun collection has been inspired by legendary figures of the time, including disco queen Diana Ross, enigmatic rock star Freddie Mercury and pop art figurehead Andy Warhol.

The first set – Ultimate Party – draws inspiration from two disparate powerhouses of the 1970s: Liza Minnelli and Diana Ross. A statement necklace boasts a 20.04-carat pear-cut yellow diamond and a contrasting 9.07-carat cushion-cut white diamond.
In a similar vein to a yellow gold necklace from Messika’s previous high jewellery collection, Beyond the Light, The Golden Shield necklace echoes the delicate curvature of the human form, enhancing the natural brilliance of the diamonds. The set is complete with a complementing ring and bracelet, while a second choker features a show-stopping 18.05-carat yellow solitaire diamond.

In the Glitter Fever set, Messika showcases its first use of snow-set diamonds to evoke the rapturous feel of a glittering dance floor. The necklace, ring, lip jewel and earrings feature cushion-cut yellow diamonds ranging from two to 15 carats in size, offsetting the irregularly, perfectly imperfect pattern of contrasting white diamonds.
