  • This year will see seashells in the form of glam jewellery, as shown in pieces by YSL and Olivela, while Kim Kardashian and daughter North West’s matching nose bling sparked a trend
  • Lewis Hamilton’s nose stud and Bella Hadid’s septum cuff added to the hype, but if you’re looking for something slightly less dramatic, Bottega Veneta’s chunky green cuff still gives a bold statement

Throughout the two years of the pandemic, our baubles and shinies sat inside, gathering dust. Between wearing masks and incessantly washing our hands, what was the point of donning jewellery? But with the world now opening up, those days are gone.

We bring you five jewellery trends that will be “haute” in 2023 and beyond, whatever your aesthetic.

1. Mermaidcore

We can’t live under the sea, but we sure can look like it. Beachy motifs, ocean hues and seashell designs are dominating the jewellery racks this season. Could be something to do with how we all flocked to the beaches as soon as the world opened up, but who’s complaining?

Think charm bracelets with dangling seashells like the one from Saint Laurent; statement studs in aquamarine and sapphire such as the conch shell design from Olivela; and chunky metal and gem bracelets to match.

2. Bold cuffs

Chunky, unconventional, beaten metal or barely there and sleek – the cuff is back and this time, with an upgrade. Historically, cuffs were a symbol of female power and status, dating back to the ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians.

Whether you pick the classic monogrammed Chanel cuff or the more quirky Bottega Veneta Fold one in the Grass shade, it’s time to brandish this sweet piece of wrist candy.

3. Perched gems
