Why Panerai’s 70 Years of Luminor watch collection won’t let you get caught in the dark
Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Luminor, Panerai opted to use a new grade superluminova in its new trio of timepieces, which is said to give off a brighter and longer lasting glow
Panerai celebrates the 70th anniversary of Luminor with a trio of timepieces that take the luminescent material beyond the dial and hands. The three Luminor Marina 70 Years of Luminor collection references, PAM01117, 01118 and 01119, use titanium, Carbotech and Fibratech as the case material, respectively.
The materials bring lightness to the 44mm case that features the Luminor Marina’s slanted bezel. In black, each feature a dial in a different shade.
But the most important feature of this range is, of course, the lume. Panerai opted to use a new grade superluminova dubbed X1, which is said to give off a brighter and longer lasting glow.
The brand made the bold move to incorporate the lume in the crown and crown guard, as well as in the stitching of the strap. Lume is also used around the inner ring of the dial. Each of the three references is presented in a unique dial colour, blue for PAM01117, black for the PAM01118 and grey for PAM01119.
The three watches are all powered by in-house automatic P. 9091 movements that give these them their three-day power reserves.
