What’s Jeff Bezos doing in weird swimming trunks on a superyacht with model Karlie Kloss? A storm rages on Twitter
He was seen strolling around France with girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, and on a superyacht with former Goldman Sachs CEO, but all Twitter could talk about were the US$260 swimming trunks billionaire Jeff Bezos was wearing
Jeff Bezos has unknowingly become a style icon.
The Amazon founder and CEO made headlines over the summer when he was photographed on a glamorous European holiday with his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez. Bezos and Sanchez were seen arm-in-arm walking the streets of France’s celebrity hotspot Saint-Tropez, and also aboard David Geffen’s US$590 million superyacht with former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and the model Karlie Kloss.
Bezos' fans could not help notice that during this time, he was regularly seen sporting a pair of octopus-print swimming trunks. The trunks, which are made by the French designer Vilebrequin, were from one of its previous collections and cost US$260, according to a company representative. They were also previously available at Amazon.
After shoppers saw Bezos wear the brand, their interest in the brand grew and new data shows they began enthusiastically searching for the trunks online.
According to the fashion search site Lyst, online shoppers have searched for these swimming trunks more than 4,000 times in the past three months, and the brand saw a 105-per-cent-rise in page views during that time.
Because of the increase in interest, the trunks made Lyst's ranking of the hottest menswear items in the most recent quarter, joining Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Mid SE trainers and Burberry’s train-ticket, print-leather card case on the top-10 list.
