Apple’s latest watches combine the design aesthetic and leather artistry of the heritage maison with sophisticated technology, including Always-On Retina and 18-hour battery life

At first sight, Hermès, custodian of refined classics, and Apple, giant of the tech world, seem unlikely bedfellows. However, Apple has been collaborating with the luxury heritage maison since 2015, and their latest venture is the Apple Watch Hermès Series 5.

The Apple Watch Hermès Series 5 features an Always-On Retina display, which maintains a dim brightness without compromising the 18-hour battery life, as well as a built-in compass which includes elevation. Hermès brings its own design aesthetic and leather artistry to create several distinctive models in 40mm and 44mm cases.

Then there are the Della Cavalleria bands, which use both monochrome and printed leathers. Della Cavalleria scarf patterns are Hermès’ signature, and the Apple Watch Hermès Series 5 offers several variations with three solid colours – encre, étain, and brique – in the “single tour” style where the pattern is on the lower half of the strap, and the “double tour” longer strap. An all-black version of the Apple Watch Hermès Series 5 – dial, strap and buckle – has light and shadow following the movement of the hands around the dial.
