  • Think you’ve seen Phuket at its most luxurious? Think again … Style reviews Rosewood Phuket’s extravagant 4-bedroom Palm House and finds a next-level sanctuary with infinity pools and luxe amenities
  • It even boasts private chefs and a personal butler to cater to a variety of needs, from singing bowl sessions and customised spa treatments to elevated room service experiences

The booming resort town of Phuket has been a hot tourist destination for years, with new hotels constantly popping up to cater to different budgets and tastes. Standing out in an already well-established and crowded market is no easy feat, but Rosewood Phuket did just that when it opened its beachfront property in 2019 on a quiet stretch of Emerald Bay.

Although the hotel is located a short drive from the popular and often raucous beach town of Patong, it offers a luxe sanctuary for those looking for a slice of tranquillity while still being close to the action. It covers a whopping 17.4 hectares of tropical forest, but its 71 villas feel extremely private and secluded – and have upped the ante with their sleek and modern features, including private pools and outdoor bathrooms with gorgeous views of the Andaman Sea.

Earlier this year, the hotel generated buzz when it unveiled two new ultra exclusive houses that cater to larger groups or discerning travellers looking to be pampered in style: the three-bedroom Coral House and four-bedroom Palm House. While the former has an enviable location right on the beach, it is the more extravagant and expansive Palm House where my family and I have been invited to spend the next few days.

Both houses are located on the other side of the resort, away from the other villas, via a private road. They still offer easy access to the main complex, which houses the resort’s facilities including swimming pools, bar and restaurants. Once we enter Palm House, however, it’s hard to imagine why we would want to leave.

Spanning two floors across 21,000 square feet, Palm House is the ultimate Architectural Digest home with its lush landscaping (including an enclosed “tropical forest” courtyard), floor-to-ceiling windows and magazine-worthy decor. Each floor is connected by private lift or stairs, and can function as its own separate entity with individual master suites equipped with luxe amenities like free-standing bathtubs, Dyson hairdryers and hidden flat-screen TVs, in addition to spacious living rooms and infinity pools (it’s true that two is always better than one).

Upstairs is made for entertaining and features an outdoor sunken dining table, a grand indoor 12-seater dining room, a sleek bar, and a fully equipped kitchen and wine cellar that would make any Michelin-starred chef or sommelier happy. The downstairs living room, meanwhile, has a projector and cinema-style screen for film nights. There’s also a private gym where you can work off the piles of delectable home-made biscuits that can be found in numerous Kardashian-style confectionery jars dotted around the villa.
