Element of the month: Yin Earth

Energy of the Snake: healing, renewal, transformation, wisdom

The Snake corresponds to the hours: 9-11am

The fourth month of the Chinese calendar and Wood Dragon year is represented by the Snake.
Life is like a game of snakes and ladders. We experience forward moves and, naturally, some setbacks. More dharma (right way of living) and less drama is needed. Last month, we talked about how to protect your energy by creating a mental force field of guardian chi. We carry on in the same mindset, but this month is all about shedding skins. This means having become mentally aware of what we want to achieve – it’s time to act!

Think about the nature of the snake: it enjoys a pretty good life basking in the sun, using its energy to strike only when it’s sure of its prey, and heading underground when life gets too much. It blends into any environment within its surroundings, camouflaged beautifully, yet mindful of its senses at all times.

The snake is represented in many spiritual and mystical belief systems. It’s often represented with the healing of the physical body while shifting to a more spiritual outlook. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a snake in the house is a good omen because it means your family will not starve. This could be taken metaphorically to mean that someone born in a Snake year places great value on material wealth to provide for their families. So having a family member as a Snake can indicate the family will always thrive.
