  • Colour has a major impact on our personal vibration, and choosing which colours to wear based on the strength of the elements that affect us most can be a game changer, says this Chinese astrologer
  • As we enter a new and vibrant 20-year feng shui cycle of fire, everyone can consider accessorising with red, while go-to colours for the Year of the Wood Dragon are lime green and emperor yellow

Colour has a direct impact on our personal vibration, enhancing or depleting our focus and creativity as well as the potential to enhance and maximise our true potential. Your lifestyle describes who you are. If you feel the need to change something in your life, what is more uplifting than a makeover?
Each year the feng shui winds grace us with new energy, with the annual chart indicating the strength and power of each of the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood. Each element has a range of associated Pantones. Fire takes the warm shades, while water and metal relate to cooler shades. Wood and earth are associated with the colours of nature.

Once we have assessed the elements that are abundant and those that may be missing or weak, we can turn to harmonising and balancing, and boosting luck. First, we look at where the strongest energy is located within a residential or commercial property. The 2024 feng shui chart – also called the Paht Chee chart – indicates an elemental imbalance that can be corrected by wearing the most suitable colours for attracting good fortune.

Each of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs hold their own direction and element. This determines their individual potential luck, which can be enhanced by a variety of feng shui formulas – one of which is colour, as every colour relates to one of the five elements. Due to the unbalanced elemental energy of 2024, there has never been a better time to consciously maximise energy and personal potential.

Red has always been considered a lucky colour in Chinese culture, as it vibrates naturally with our own life force, or chi. Some find wearing red difficult or too obvious. However, as we are entering a new and vibrant 20-year feng shui cycle of fire, consider accessorising with red – from wearing a scarf or tie, or choosing a red wallet, bag, luggage or office accessories.

The generic colours of 2024 are spring parrot green (or lime green) and emperor yellow (or bright yellow or turmeric). These colours relate to the elements of wood and earth, which complement the Wood Dragon year of 2024. Colours that help balance the year’s energy are red and white, which relate to the fire and metal elements.
