Hong Kong’s 12 best Christmas feasts, from Italian at the Grand Hyatt’s Grissini and Chinese at Tin Lung Heen, to traditional turkey at Jimmy’s Kitchen and Magistracy Dining Room
Hotel restaurants Above and Beyond, Harbourside, Café Circles, Grissini, The Cafe, The Steak House and I-O-N Buffet and Noodle Bar all get in on the act, as well as all Feather & Bone outlets
Christmas meals are the great equaliser of the holiday season. While the annual exchange of gifts can occasionally be an unbalanced affair – you spend hours researching and acquiring the perfect present weeks ahead of time; they snatch whatever was left on the shelves on Christmas Eve – a seasonal lunch or dinner is a gift everyone shares together. That’s why it’s best to make it a good one – if not for grouchy relatives, then at least as a treat for yourself.
Fortunately, Hong Kong is packed with restaurants offering a wide array of fabulous festive feasts. Whether you’re looking for a traditional roast turkey or Asian flavours, here are some of the best.
Above & Beyond
This Christmas, indulge in an exquisite dinner menu at Hotel Icon’s lauded Chinese restaurant Above & Beyond (December 24-26, HK$1,088 per person). Begin your festive dining experience with a platter of honey-glazed barbecued pork, deep-fried crystal blue prawn with yuzu, and braised baby abalone in sake with jellyfish. Savour the rich flavours of an imperial bird’s nest broth with Yunnan ham and – for a Western touch – turkey purée, and follow it up with half a lobster baked with cheese and truffle, and a steamed grouper fillet with spinach and egg white. Round things off with fried rice with Wagyu beef and spring onion, then finish on a sweet note with pistachio cream and strawberry cream roll.
Café Circles
For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Café Circles at the Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West invites guests to a special celebration featuring a delectable festive menu (HK$528-HK$838). Highlights include golden roast turkey, grilled Alaskan crab legs and roasted beef rib eye, served on a rotating basis. Indulge your sweet tooth with seasonal desserts like Christmas chocolate yule log cake, mince pies and stollen. On special festive dates, there will be visits from Santa Claus, balloon-twisting fun and carols, ensuring a Christmas meal to remember.
Feather & Bone
Available through December until the 26th, the Christmas menu at all Feather & Bone dining outlets offers an indulgent experience for HK$598 per person. The meal begins with a sharing starter featuring the concept’s signature grazing board, which includes premium charcuterie, smoked salmon, cheeses and antipasti, complemented by dried fruits and nuts. Guests can choose from a selection of appetisers as varied as hot-smoked haddock and baby potato salad, foie gras and chicken liver pâté, and roasted pumpkin soup.
