Omega’s history is deeply entwined with that of the high-performance world of professional golf. The Swiss luxury watchmaker has long been a partner and supporter of the sport, sponsoring top tournaments and stars of the game such as Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia and Danielle Kang, as well as repeatedly taking inspiration from golf to produce watches worn by many of those leading competitors.
The links between the two run deep. Both high-level golf and luxury horology emphasise the importance of absolute excellence and dedication to achieve top performance, with a focus particularly on absolute accuracy. Golf, of course, is also among the most stylish of sports, making it the perfect fit for a watchmaker whose timepieces’ aesthetics are habitually as impressive as their technical performance.
Since 2001, the brand has served as the headline sponsor of the Omega Masters, one of Europe’s top golf tournaments. It was established as the Swiss Open in 1923, and has been played since 1939 at the same spectacular venue at an altitude of 1,500 metres in the ski resort of Crans-Montana – the longest any European tournament has been hosted at the same course.
This year’s event, which took place between August 31 and September 3, attracted a stellar field, with Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg eventually coming out on top with a score of 19 under par.
A wide range of Omega’s ambassadors also took their place among the field, including Nicolai Højgaard – who tied for fifth, his twin brother Rasmus Højgaard, Guido Migliozzi, Sean Crocker, Erik van Rooyen, Justin Suh, Danny Willett, Jeremy Freiburghaus and Matt Wallace.
The Seamaster Aqua Terra Golf, meanwhile, is the ideal companion on the course. Nestled in a stainless steel case, the green sunray dial features a pattern inspired by the wooden decking of luxury yachts, alongside rhodium-plated hands, luminous white indexes and a date window at 6 o’clock.
