  • For opera buffs, Lo King-man’s Maria Stuarda about the lives of Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth I will take place at Hong Kong City Hall, while cinema fans should head to Central Harbourfront
  • At The Peninsula Hong Kong, guests can feast on food, drinks and a performance inspired by Studio 54, the club favoured by Freddie Mercury and Elton John in its heyday

This year’s winter events leave culture vultures spoiled for choice – from Disneyland to immersive productions and an outdoor cinema, here’s where to go and get in the joyous spirit.

When: December 16-31

Where: Hong Kong Cultural Centre

How much: HK$180 to HK$1,200

A stalwart of festive performances in Hong Kong (and everywhere else) The Nutcracker returns this year with quintessential nods to its host city – think waltzing Bauhinia flowers, a bamboo forest and the like. This year’s instalment features performances by guest artists Taras Domitro from the Hollywood Ballet Academy and Alejandro Virelles, principal dancer of the Berlin State Ballet. Holding court at the Cultural Centre for the second half of December, select performances include a live accompaniment from the Hong Kong Sinfonietta orchestra.

2. Maria Stuarda
