Review / Is Rosewood Hong Kong’s Summer Camp for Kids worth it? The family staycation package recreates the ease of a resort getaway with an all-day kids’ club
- Covid-19 and travel restrictions might mean no summer resort holidays with the family, but Rosewood Hong Kong steps up with its Explorers Club
- Keep the kids entertained with activities such as yoga, dance, cricket or egg tart making classes, or even a masterclass with snooker champ Marco Fu
What’s the hook?
Rosewood Hong Kong has cleared out rooms on the 27th floor to create the Explorers Club playrooms. Before you even enter the space, there is a play area where the kiddies can enjoy Rosewood’s Explorers Express train as well as wooden mazes and other games, such as noughts and crosses. They can entertain themselves with the toy cabinets and story book collection too. Five playrooms with different themes such as Curious Jungle, Big Sky, Deep Blue, Mad Space and Play Lab are equipped with themed jungle gyms, books, games and puzzles through which the children can learn through play.
In addition, there is a calendar chock full of activities such as kids’ yoga and egg tart-making classes, as well as optional special programmes that are available for an additional fee. These include paying a visit to the SPCA animal shelter, cricket courses and even a snooker class with world snooker champion, Marco Fu.
The experience
We arrived at our suite, which was kitted out with a tepee and colouring books. Rosewood’s beautiful corner suite is famous for its bathtubs, and that fact didn’t escape our little one, who was already excited for bath time. Good start.
We were scheduled for a 45-minute session at the playroom. We picked the Deep Blue nautical themed playroom, whose biggest draw is the huge blue play blocks for kids to unleash their imagination with. Stacking blocks and threading pool noodles through them didn’t exhaust all our son’s energy, but he did settle down with a fishing game and read a couple of books before his time was up too. With four other rooms for him to explore, he was also itching to come back and try them all.
The highlight of the stay was the snooker masterclass with Hong Kong professional snooker player Marco Fu. For those who do not follow the sport, he is a three-time winner of international events such as the 2007 Grand Prix, the 2013 Australian Goldfields Open and the 2016 Scottish Open.
