After a travel-less 2020, most of us can’t even remember where our prized suitcases are stored any more. Hotels are rolling out staycations to keep travellers occupied, and the best ones offer something unique to go with the local escape.

The Langham, Hong Kong has been collaborating with Tumi since 2020 on a series of launches that focus on sustainability, one of which was the pre-launch of the luggage brand’s first Tumi Recycled V4 suitcase, in the hotel brand’s signature pink hue and made from recycled materials.

This suitcase is now available to guests who book The Langham’s Celebrate Now stay, on offer until the end of June. The package is designed for two, and includes the Recycled V4 in either the wheeled carry-on or packing case version, as well as a card case, cash voucher and Pink Accents accessories kit to jazz up your suitcase – all from the luggage brand.

What do you get when French tradition meets Hong Kong heritage? A rather exclusive dining experience.

The private rooms at the Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Ming Court have been given a grand makeover with elements from French glassmaker Lalique, including a spectacular Champs-Elysées chandelier.

The two houses are pushing the collaboration further with a new exquisite dinner, named Natural Sauvage. Ming Court’s executive chef Li Yuet Faat has created eight- and eleven-course gastronomic feasts using the finest Chinese ingredients, including abalone, sea cucumber and bird’s nest. The dishes are paired with delightful spirits including Louis Roederer Cristal 2008 and three wines from Lalique, which are served in glasses from the Lalique & James Suckling 100 Points collection.

Menu highlights include drunken razor clams marinated with Shaoxing rice wine and topped with caviar; seared new Caledonia prawn; Australian M9 Wagyu beef stir-fried with Shishito green pepper and garlic black bean sauce; and chilled coconut milk pudding with imperial bird’s nest, presented in a Lalique champagne coupe.

Off on an Ocean Park adventure? Don’t miss Ocean Park Marriott Hotel’s American-style steakhouse Prohibition Grill House & Cocktail Bar for an appetising feast perfect for sharing with family & friends to finish off your day.

Until April 11 there’s a special lamb-focused menu ranging from a well-balanced lamb and Cheddar cheese burger, to Chef Ivan Chan’s star baby lamb dish, using meat from Basque valley of Soule in the Atlantic Pyrenees (south west of France), fed exclusively on its mother’s milk, contributing to its tender, low-grain texture.

Henry Jacques – scents of grandeur

Conceived to imagine a historic Parisian flat, Henry Jacques’ first stand-alone, custom-designed boutique is coming to Elements mall in Kowloon. The 460 sq ft boutique boasts an interior of solid oak – from the panels to the floors – vacuum-packed in France and reassembled in Hong Kong.

With a storied family history in the perfume industry, Henry Jacques’ new boutique has a library of 3,000 in-house creations.

The brand’s craftsmanship and artistry goes back to 1975, when it was founded in Grasse in Southern France by Henry Jacques Cremona, who translated his travels and childhood memories into a passion for perfume-making.

Tod’s No_Code – valley of wonder

A special projects division of the Italian footwear brand Tod’s, No_Code studio seeks to interpret the social changes unfolding in contemporary society, providing thoughts and ideas on trends that are translated into timely and suitable “products of the moment”. In recent years, the No_Code team has explored a range of design possibilities, from housing to motor scooters.

In a break from purely physical products, No_Code’s latest project is a cultural endeavour. The brand has commissioned the Iranian-American photographer Ramak Fazel to document Silicon Valley, a place not mentioned on any road signs, which, from a purely geographical point of view, does not really exist.

The results are featured in Silicon Valley No_Code Life, a photo book that aims to represent real life in the tech hub, going beyond what is present in the media. What lies behind the official images of the big tech companies? How do the inhabitants of the valley, in the shadow of billion-dollar companies, really live? The 190-page book, published and distributed by Rizzoli International, is available now.
