Giorgio Armani’s collection In Viaggio saw throwbacks to the golden age of travel, focusing on soft tailoring and a neutral palette – Law Roach and Fala Chen had nothing but praise

Fashion bigwig Giorgio Armani has had a lot to celebrate this year. In July, he turned 90, only days after staging a beautiful haute couture show in Paris that showed how he’s still at the top of his game.

The Italian designer, who is also marking the 50th anniversary of his eponymous brand in 2025, normally presents his ready-to-wear ranges in Milan. For the spring/summer 2025 Giorgio Armani collection, he held an off-schedule show in New York, a city that has a long history with the brand. Luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman, a New York institution, was the first store to carry the Giorgio Armani men’s line in the 80s.

The star-studded show, which attracted celebrities such as Orlando Bloom and Pamela Anderson and a who’s who of New York’s society, was also meant to celebrate the opening of the label’s new building on Madison Avenue, which besides Giorgio Armani and Armani/Casa boutiques, houses an Armani/Ristorante and residential units that have already sold out, according to a spokesperson.

Held a few blocks from the Madison Avenue building at the Park Avenue Armory, the show, aptly named In Viaggio (“on a journey” in Italian), started with a model in a safari-inspired outfit followed by a porter carrying her suitcases.

That first outing, a throwback to the golden age of travel, set the tone for a collection that had plenty of nostalgic moments but was resolutely modern. It was a heartfelt homage to a city whose cinematic quality has always inspired Armani, as he explained in the show notes.

The soft tailoring that is a signature of his work took centre stage in the menswear looks, some of the best we’ve seen in recent years at Armani. Women’s outfits ranged from 30s-inspired silhouettes to shimmery dresses and silk pantsuits.
