Houten hails from a family of actors in the Netherlands and has many accolades under her belt; she met Pearce while shooting Western thriller Brimstone in 2015

Guy Pearce recently revealed that his ex-wife Kate Mestitz – who he split from in 2015 – was the greatest love of his life.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, he said that he’d since moved on and the love of his life is now his son Monte, whom he shares with Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten.

The Brutalist actor’s statement caused a lot of confusion among fans as he was thought to be in a relationship with van Houten. On January 22, van Houten came forward on an Instagram story to set the record straight.

“I don’t usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy. I wanted to make something clear – he and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years. Sorry not to mention it earlier,” she wrote.

“I am, however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives – our beautiful son and his hamster,” she concluded. “The end.”

Carice van Houten, 48, was born in Leiderdorp, Netherlands to parents Margje Stasse, a broadcaster, and Theodore van Houten, a writer and journalist. They separated when she was young. Van Houten’s love for acting stemmed from her father’s collection of silent films, she revealed in an interview with The Standard.
