Her viral lip-synch videos in 2020 catapulted her to fame, leading to a music career and fashion brand collaborations … but there was also that controversial tattoo
Imagine skyrocketing from US Navy veteran to one of TikTok’s biggest stars in just a year. That’s exactly what Bella Poarch did. She began posting on TikTok during the summer of 2020, using the app’s Face Zoom feature extensively and crafting minimalist lip-synch videos characterised by cute, cartoonlike expressions reminiscent of video games and anime.
With her catchy videos and unique style, Poarch took the internet by storm, creating TikTok’s most-liked video ever in August 2020 – a lip-synch to Millie B’s “M to the B” which, according to Capital UK, still held the top spot on the list in 2024.
Here’s everything you need to know about Bella Poarch.
Bella Poarch was born in the Philippines
Originally from the Philippines, Poarch, 27, was raised by her grandmother until age three, when she was adopted by a white American military veteran and his Filipino wife, joining two sisters and a brother, all adopted, according to Rolling Stone.
On a 2021 H3 podcast episode, Poarch shared that, by age seven, life on the family farm became tough. She and her brother woke up at 3am or 4am to do chores like cleaning animal waste while her sisters were spared.
