Meet New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s husband Bill Hochul: the veteran federal prosecutor previously worked with the US Department of Justice … but why is his income under scrutiny?
The couple made around US$2 million in 2023, with most of it coming from Bill’s job at hospitality company Delaware North – he joined multinational law firm Davis Polk last year
According to Politico, Trump has slammed the proposal saying, “Not only is this a massive tax to people coming in, it is extremely inconvenient from both driving and personal booking keeping standards.” The comments, according to Politico, have put the plan under threat.
How they met
Per New York Magazine, Bill met Kathy when she was working at the New York State Legislature. The pair got married in 1984 and have two children together – Caitlin and William. In an Instagram post in August 2023, Kathy wrote: “39 years ago today I married the love of my life and New York’s First Gentleman, Bill. The hairstyles and outfits may have changed over the years, but your support and encouragement has only grown stronger.”
Their wealth makes headlines
The Hochuls were under the spotlight this year after details about their tax returns revealed the couple made around US$2 million in adjusted gross income in 2023, according to the New York Post. The newspaper reported that it was Bill who made most of the money, bringing in US$1.5 million from his job at Delaware North, the hospitality company where he used to work. Considering he made US$650,375 in 2022, his income increased considerably in 2023, reported the New York Post.
