Sam Burns, 28, is considered one of the best up-and-coming players on the PGA Tour in recent years, but has been making headlines for his antics off the golf course.

Just after the November 5 US elections, Burns showed his support for Trump by wearing a hat with Trump’s signature slogan “Make America Great Again”. He then he happily boasted about playing golf with Trump and hanging out with eccentric billionaire Elon Musk.

Burns was the subject of fierce debate in November after posting a picture of himself with a dead deer on Instagram. The golfer was holding the deer by the antlers and wearing a camouflage hat with the slogan “Make America Great Again”. He captioned the macabre snap, “Deer hunting is great again”.

The picture was posted a few weeks after Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the US presidential election. Fellow golfer Nick Dunlap commented on the image, “Where does one get such a hat?” It has been widely reported that the hunting picture resulted in mixed views, with some slamming Burns for hunting, while others applauded him for supporting Trump and hunting.

Just after Burns posted the dead deer picture, he solidified his Maga status by playing a round of golf with US president-elect Donald Trump. Trump joined Burns and Dunlap for a round of golf in Florida, per the Daily Mail. “It was an incredible honour to play golf with the president-elect of the United States of America,” wrote Burns on Instagram.

In another picture, Burns was snapped alongside billionaire Elon Musk, who has been tipped to be part of Trump’s second administration, leading the proposed Department of Government Efficiency – which if it goes ahead, will focus on drastic cuts to the federal government.
