Wisniewski was a college athlete and journalism student when she met Thomas; she now works in advertising and supported her partner through the tough times, like when he was dropped by Ralph Lauren

PGA Tour golfer and former world No 1 Justin Thomas, 31, is no stranger to making headlines on and off the course. Most recently, he’s been in the news for failing to secure his first victory in two years after being unable to capitalise on a 54-hole lead at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

In 2021, though, Thomas came under fire when he was caught using a homophobic slur after missing a putt during the PGA Tour tournament in Hawaii. One of his sponsors, Ralph Lauren, ended its relationship with him over the incident, prompting Thomas to commit to going to training to “become a better person”.

“It’s not me. It’s not a word that I use, but for some reason, it was in there. And that’s what I’m trying to figure out as to why it was in there, and it’s going to be a part of this process and training programme or whatever I need to do, not only to prove to myself but prove to my sponsors and prove to those people who don’t know who I am that that is indeed not the person I am,” he was quoted as saying at the time.

Thomas, who’s neighbours with Tiger Woods, 48, and has received a lot of advice from the golfing legend, has previously spoken about the impact being a professional athlete has had on his mental health and how his wife, Jillian Wisniewski, 31, has been a support system for him.

She met Justin Thomas at university

Wisniewski met Thomas through mutual friends in 2016. He was playing amateur golf while studying at the University of Alabama; she was playing basketball for the University of Kentucky, where she was also pursuing a journalism degree. They began their relationship as friends, but romantic sparks soon began to fly.

The couple dated for five years as Thomas pursued a pro golf career and Wisniewski worked in advertising. They eventually got engaged in 2021. Although it’s not clear when the couple tied the knot, Thomas referred to their “first Christmas as a married couple” in an Instagram post in December 2022.
