Palin was John McCain’s running mate against Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the 2008 US presidential election; she’s been dating ‘Romeo of the Rink’ Duguay since 2022 – but what do we know about him?

It seems former Alaska governor Sarah Palin is spending the holiday season with family. For Thanksgiving, the “Mother of Maga”, as a fan recently referred to her on X (formerly Twitter), cosied up with her boyfriend, NHL legend Ron Duguay, sharing a rare glimpse into their relationship on Instagram. The former ice hockey player also posted a snapshot from their celebration, in which his son Noah and Noah’s fiancée Meaghan McDonald were also present.

Soon, news of Duguay and Palin’s continuing romance hit the tabloids, with The Daily Mail picking up on it. Sharing the outlet’s headline on his own Instagram, the former New York Rangers player cheekily wrote on his Instagram Story, “They found us,” adding, “Quiet family time,” and in quotes, “Our happy place.”

So who is Ron Duguay and what has he been up to lately?

He’s an NHL star

Ron Duguay was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, in July 1957, and grew up in the Val Caron neighbourhood. He first picked up a hockey stick at the tender age of three. Shortly before his 20th birthday, Duguay was drafted into the NHL as the 13th overall pick and the New York Rangers’ second. In his 12-season run, he also played with the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Los Angeles Kings.

Early in his career, Duguay garnered a widespread fan following, thanks to his hockey skills but also due in part to his flowing locks – he didn’t wear a helmet – and good looks, which earned him the nickname Romeo of the Rink. This in turn landed him on magazine covers and in several TV commercials.

What does Ron Duguay do now?
