Before becoming a top doctor in the US, Nesheiwat worked as the medical director for CityMD – a chain of urgent care centres across New York – and regularly contributes to Fox News

New York-based medical doctor Janette Nesheiwat has been named as US president-elect Donald Trump’s pick for surgeon general.

“She is committed to ensuring that Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, and believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their health to live longer, healthier lives,” said Trump in a statement.

The position is often referred to as “the nation’s doctor”, who leads public health officers and communicates critical health information to Americans. Nesheiwat, an experienced emergency doctor, has led medical missions to Ukraine and was on the forefront during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nesheiwat has worked at CityMD for 12 years, with the company reportedly having a big impact on medical care in NYC because of the convenience factor. They are open on weekends and into the night, making getting general medical care easier.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, long queues outside CityMD clinics were common as people waited on news about their relatives.
