Fans couldn’t believe the woman next to her was Lizzo’s mother, saying she looked so young that she could’ve been her sister. “Your mum! I thought she was your sister or friend,” wrote one netizen. “She get it from her mama!” stated another. “Real life twins,” quipped celebrity hairstylist Ashanti Lation on the post.

It’s one of the latest posts to appear on Lizzo’s Instagram feed amid her transformational weight loss journey. After some netizens accused her of using Ozempic to shed the pounds, Lizzo denied the suggestions, saying that she’d actually just been working hard in the gym. “When you finally get Ozempic allegations after five months of weight training and calorie deficit,” she wrote in a video earlier this year. To troll her critics, she even wore an Ozempic costume this Halloween.

Here’s what we know about her lookalike mother:

As revealed in the HBO Max documentary Love, Lizzo, the singer was raised in a family church founded by her great-grandparents in Detroit. According to the source, her mum, Shari Johnson-Jefferson, would sing in church, leading Lizzo and her siblings to be exposed to some major gospel artists from a young age.

Per the docu, Shari met her late husband, Michael Jefferson, at church and it was love at first sight. They got married about a month after they started dating. “You just know,” she’s quoted as saying in the clip. Lizzo was super close with her dad, who passed away in 2009, writes Essence. “When he passed away, I lost the will to make music. I lost the will to live,” Lizzo explained on the production of her loss.
