Who is Mohamed al-Fayed’s brother Salah, who also stands accused of sexual assault? The late businessman co-owned Harrods with his famous brother, and is alleged to have abused his former assistant
The BBC documentary alleging sexual assault by Mohamed al-Fayed – and possible connivance by Harrods – has prompted further accusations, including against his younger brother Salah
Salah Fayed, late brother of Egyptian businessman Mohamed al-Fayed, has been implicated in the sexual assault claims involving his well-known sibling, according to the BBC.
Mohamed died in August last year, aged 94. A documentary released this year by the BBC contains allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking against him.
Now Salah, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2010, has also been implicated, with victims coming forward to give details of alleged attacks. Here is what you need to know.
Where did it all start?
In September, the BBC broadcast its documentary Al Fayed: Predator at Harrods, in which alleged victims of the former store boss reported that he sexually abused them. Since then, scores of other women have come forward, detailing years of alleged abuse by the wealthy businessman according to The Guardian. Now his late brother and business partner Salah has been implicated in the scandal, with ex-Harrods employees detailing incidents including alleged sexual assault and trafficking.
What are the claims?
Per the BBC, three women claim they were abused by Salah between 1989 and 1997 in London, the south of France and Monaco. One, Helen, was allegedly raped by Mohamed in a Dubai hotel room in 1989 and later offered work as his personal assistant. She told the BBC she was drugged by Salah and thinks she was raped by him while unconscious. Two other women claim they were also abused by both Mohamed and Salah, with one woman telling the BBC that Salah “was trying to get [her] hooked on crack cocaine so he could do whatever he wanted” to her.
