Why is Mariah Carey’s ‘ex-brother’ Morgan Carey suing her? The ‘Emotions’ singer will be questioned under oath over claims in her memoir of her sibling’s alleged violent behaviour – which he denies
The ‘Emotions’ singer’s estranged brother sued her back in 2021, claiming that she lied about him in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey – she’s to be questioned under oath
Musical icon Mariah Carey is going to be questioned under oath over what she said about her brother in her autobiography – statements that he disputes, as reported by the New York Post. The date is set for January 17, and she will be required to appear in person for a filmed interview.
Per the source, the “Emotions” singer’s estranged brother sued her back in 2021, claiming that she lied about him in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
In her book, Mariah, 55, alleged that her brother – who she refers to as an “ex-brother” – was violent in the family and dealt drugs in the 1980s. “More often, I felt I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too,” she wrote.
She added that he once “slammed” their mum Patricia into a wall. “Next thing I knew she was totally limp, as if her bones had melted, folding onto the floor,” she stated in her book.
Morgan has vehemently denied the claims, saying they are “false and defamatory”, writes the New York Post. Mariah’s late sister, Alison, also previously sued the pop star over claims that she’d “pimped” her out and “drugged” the singer when she was 12.
Here’s what we know about Mariah Carey’s brother Morgan and their complicated relationship:
