Famed record producer and songwriter Quincy Jones died on 3 November at the age of 91, surrounded by family at his Bel Air home.
The legendary musician and 28-time Grammy winner had a tremendous impact on the music industry during his life. Jones began his career touring with renowned bandleader Lionel Hampton and would go on to arrange recordings for industry giants including Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, a long-time friend.
As news of Jones’ death broke, tributes from the music world began pouring in, including from Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and Jamie Foxx. Canadian songstress Celine Dion penned a particularly moving Instagram post that honoured Jones’ legacy.
Under a photo of the two musicians together, Dion wrote: “Quincy touched my world as both a cherished mentor and also as someone I looked up to for his deep impact on virtually every form of American music. Quincy once said, ‘Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach.’ May his wisdom and joy remain with us always”.
Alongside his storied career, Jones’ legacy includes a fortune of US$500 million and several children, including his actress daughter, Rashida Jones. As she grieves her father’s passing, the Parks and Recreation star will no doubt be relying on her long-term partner Ezra Koenig for support.
