Meet Jeff Halperin, Republican politician Kari Lake’s husband: the Trump-loving ex-anchor ran for a Senate seat in Arizona – while her Emmy-nominated videographer hubby filmed her ‘24 hours’
Halperin and Lake met at work and, in 2022 when she ran for governor, he reportedly documented her every move and recorded her conversations so that she would not be ‘misrepresented’ by the media
Former Fox 10 news anchor and journalist Kari Lake is putting her political credentials to the test as the Republican nominee in the Senate election in Arizona – which has still not been called at the time of writing.
As she rallied for support on the campaign trail, her husband Jeff Halperin was next to her around the clock, Lake revealed recently on X (formerly Twitter). In 2022, Time reported that Halperin, a professional videographer, recorded her every move and what she said to journalists so that she would not be “misrepresented”.
Here is what you need to know about the man who has become his wife’s full-time cameraman.
Jeff Halperin has Colombian roots
While his wife has been outspoken about enforcing stricter border control between the US and its neighbours, Halperin has proudly boasted about his Colombian heritage. In an interview on Lake’s YouTube channel, Halperin said his mother was Colombian and came to Chicago in search of work in the 60s. She met her husband – Halperin’s father – and later became a US citizen.
He spoke about how “amazing” it was to experience two different cultures while growing up, explaining how he visited Colombia often: “My first language was Spanish. That’s what we spoke at home … and so I picked that up first, and then I picked up English watching Sesame Street.”
