Who is John Molner, Katie Couric’s supportive husband? He’s the co-founder and CEO of the ex-anchor’s media company – the pair married in 2014 in New York, and they’ve since braved a health scare
Katie Couric’s first husband, Jay Monahan, died from colon cancer, and in 2012 Couric met John Molner through a friend: ‘what can I say, he had me at hello’, she said
Former news anchor Katie Couric has cemented herself in homes across the world as the face who brings you the news.
At 67 years old, her views remain as relevant as ever. In August, Couric made headlines after slamming her former employers, CBS, for replacing host Norah O’Donnell with two male anchors, a move she labelled as “odd” and “out of touch”.
The influential businesswoman married her husband John Molner in 2014. Molner, a banker, now leads Katie Couric Media with his wife. Here is what you need to know about him.
How did Katie Couric get together with her husband, John Molner?
In an interview with People magazine, Couric said that she had asked her friend to set her up on a date. Couric’s first husband Jay Monahan died in 1998 from colon cancer. In 2012, “I asked a friend of mine, Molly, who’s husband is a trauma surgeon, if her husband knew any other doctors, because I thought I’d like to go out with a doctor,” Couric said.
Her friend didn’t know any doctors – but she suggested a banker, John Molner, and passed on Couric’s number. Couric said he called and asked her out: “What can I say, he had me at hello.”
The pair tied the knot in 2014
In 2013, Molner popped the question on a beach over Labour Day weekend. Couric told the Today show that Molner planned most of their 2014 wedding. The ceremony took place in the garden at Couric’s home in East Hampton, New York.
