Who is Zayn Malik’s influencer sister, Doniya Malik – and what did she say about Liam Payne? The former One Direction star’s eldest sibling slammed the ‘cruel comments online’ after the singer’s death
Zayn Malik’s sister Doniya responded to the tragic death of her brother’s former 1D bandmate Liam Payne a day after the singer was found dead, reminding people why their online comments matter
“And this should be a reminder to always be kind. You never know what a person is truly going through,” the 33-year-old captioned her post on October 17. “Always think before you write cruel comments online.”
Doniya’s famous brother Zayn also took to social media to express his grief. “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me,” the “Dusk Till Dawn” singer wrote on Instagram on October 17. “I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives. I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.”
Here’s what we know about Zayn’s eldest sister, who has supported him through thick and thin:
Doniya Malik comes from a large family
Doniya was raised in a busy household as the eldest of four siblings. Born to parents Trisha and Yaser Malik on April 19, 1991, she grew up alongside sisters Waliyah and Safaa and brother Zayn in Bradford, West Yorkshire, according to People magazine.
The same outlet reports that their mother, Trisha, was working as a halal chef at a primary school before Zayn rose to fame. “Zayn said, ‘You don’t have to do this any more,’” Trisha shared in an interview with the BBC. “Instead, he puts my wage into my bank.”
She used to argue with Zayn Malik a lot
It seems the Malik siblings had their fair share of sibling rivalry. Speaking with BBC in 2015, Doniya noted that she used to fight with Zayn a lot – but he’s always been protective of his sisters. “He bosses me around,” she told the news outlet. “He acts like the big protective brother, which is quite nice at times.”
