Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz are both staunchly against Donald Trump despite being Republicans, but why were Liz and Mary once feuding over same-sex marriage?

As the US presidential election inches ever closer, more high profile and influential Americans are publicly revealing who they will vote for.

Despite being known for his lifelong allegiance to the Republican Party, former US vice-president Dick Cheney has confirmed he will be voting for Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris. “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution,” Cheney said, per CNN.

Liz followed in her father’s political footsteps, becoming a Wyoming congresswoman in 2017. She has five children and has been married to lawyer Philip Perry for more than two decades.

However, her political career and even her Republican identity changed in many ways after the Capitol attacks in 2021. The born and bred conservative has since emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of Republican presidential nominee Trump.

Inside Liz Cheney’s anti-Trump movement

Liz was the House select committee’s vice-chair spearheading the investigation into the Capitol attacks on January 6, 2021. The role saw her being shunned by the Republican Party because of her outspoken comments about Trump and his role in the attacks.
