The princess, like her father before her, attended school in a Welsh castle that was dubbed ‘hippie Hogwarts’, and will now be studying at UCL in London

Step aside Emily in Paris – it’s time for Alexia in London. Dutch royal Princess Alexia, daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, will be moving to the British capital for her studies.

The 19-year-old will reportedly be pursuing a bachelor of science and engineering for social change at the University College London’s Faculty of Engineering after a gap year travelling and working. The UCL website states that the degree aims to create a “next generation leader in social change” – perfect for the princess who is second in line to the throne after her older sister Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange.

In a new Instagram update by the Dutch royal household, Princess Alexia is pictured looking radiant in a brown waistcoat outside the UCL campus. The caption announced that the princess’ student life will be considered private information.

So, what else do we know about the princess?

Before UCL, Princess Alexia of the Netherlands attended her father’s alma mater, UWC Atlantic College in Wales, for her International Baccalaureate. The school was coined “hippie Hogwarts” by the Sunday Times, and is in a Welsh castle. It offers unconventional courses like sustainability studies and tai chi, per Vanity Fair. The school is also known for promoting global cooperation and world peace – evident from the diverse student body on campus and the ample scholarships that are offered.

One of the princess’ peers at UWC Atlantic was the heir presumptive to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor of Asturias, daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Upon graduation, Princess Alexia celebrated by following the Dutch tradition of raising the nation’s flag and her school bag up a flagpole.

She has a ship named after her
