Who is MyKayla Skinner’s husband, Jonas Harmer? He supported the Olympic medalist and former gymnast amid her feud with Simone Biles, competed on American Ninja Warrior, and has a true crime podcast
- The pair met when they were in college in Utah, and now share a daughter together; he called his wife ‘the strongest person ever’ after she reportedly received death threats for her recent comments
- Harmer also has a podcast, Safely to the Moon, about his time at a cryptocurrency company, SafeMoon, that defrauded investors out of over US$200 million
Skinner had previously uploaded a video to YouTube criticising Biles and the USA Olympics team who clinched the gold medal in this year’s games, prompting a barrage of hate comments and even death threats from the public.
“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be,” Skinner had said in the since-deleted video. Biles later clapped back after her team won gold. Posting a photo of the squad, her caption seemed to address Skinner’s comments. “Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions,” Biles wrote.
On August 7, Skinner shared a video on Instagram admitting to her mistakes. “To be totally clear, I take 100 per cent for poorly articulating the point I was trying to make. The last thing I wanted was to cause harm or offend our US Olympic Team. I know these women are incredible – the very best of the best. And almost all of them are my former teammates, who I have enjoyed very much cheering on the last few years,” she said in the video.
In her apology video, the 27-year-old former Olympic vault silver medallist made it clear that she’d previously individually apologised to the team members, but only received a response from Biles. “She told me that she was proud of me,” Skinner says in the video.
Skinner implied that she was blindsided by Biles’ later Instagram post that once again referred to the comments Skinner made, which went viral. Then Biles shared that she had been seemingly blocked by Skinner.
Throughout the drama though, one man stood by Skinner’s side. Her husband, Jonas Harmer, showed his support by commenting under the video, “Proud of you for apologising when you did, staying quiet when you did, and now standing up for yourself. You’re the strongest person I know!”
