Eric Murphy, son of Eddie Murphy and Paulette McNeely, just celebrated his 35th birthday on July 10, but it sounds like his dad would love to celebrate something else somewhere down the line – a funny grandkid.

Earlier this month, Eddie spoke about his eldest son’s relationship with Jasmin Lawrence, daughter of Martin Lawrence, who was Eddie’s co-star in Boomerang (1992) and Life (1999), during an interview on CBS Mornings.

The Beverly Hills Cop star, who just came out with the fourth instalment of the series, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, said he was not only “cool” with his son’s relationship, but that “if they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny”.

Well … kind of. Eric doesn’t appear on screen, but he’s taken on a few projects as a voice actor. He voiced Blue Mackerel in both Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate and Megamind Rules!

Again … kind of. If you’ve watched the movie and did not spot him, that is because Eric didn’t appear in the film. Rather, he provided the automated dialogue replacement (ADR) for his father’s character in the film. He did the same in Candy Cane Lane (2023).

ADR is the process of re-recording dialogue in a studio during post-production on a film for clarity. Considering how similar father and son sound, you probably didn’t even notice! Eric got this job by auditioning for it.
