Who are Gwyneth Paltrow’s famous Hollywood parents, Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow? The Goop founder’s mum starred in Will & Grace, while her late dad was a well-known producer who died in 2002
- Gwyneth Paltrow’s mum Blythe Danner was taken away from a charity event in an ambulance over the weekend, but a Goop rep has since confirmed she is ’completely fine’
- Paltrow lost her father in 2002 after his battle with cancer, and has admitted she’d fall into a deep depression on his birthday each year until she ‘reframed’ the date
Danner’s rep also confirmed that she is “absolutely OK”, adds People. Danner, who shares two children, Gwyneth and Jake Paltrow with her late husband Bruce Paltrow, has been on the Hollywood scene for much longer than her daughter. Bruce, who died in 2002, was also a showbiz fixture for years, making Gwyneth one of the “OG” nepo babies of her generation – oh, and did we mention her godfather is Steven Spielberg?
Here’s what we know about her famous and very well-connected parents:
Gwyneth Paltrow’s parents were both in Hollywood
Gwyneth’s mum Blythe Danner, 81, first rose to prominence on the stage after winning a Tony Award in 1970s play Butterflies Are Free, but entered the popular consciousness in films and TV shows such as Will & Grace, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. Gwyneth’s father Bruce Paltrow was a well-known producer, writer and director who worked on St. Elsewhere, The White Shadow and Tattingers, per his IMDB page.
They met on Broadway
According to People, Bruce and Danner met early on in their careers. Per the source, they first crossed paths on Broadway while working on the 1969 play Someone’s Comin’ Hungry. They reportedly tied the knot just a year later in 1970. The pair welcomed their daughter Gwyneth on September 27, 1972, and their son, Jake, on September 26, 1975, adds the source.
