Kenya Moore didn’t get paid for her first month on Real Housewives of Atlanta

Moore, 53, who has appeared in films like Waiting to Exhale, Senseless and Deliver Us from Eva, joined the beloved Bravo reality show in 2012, for its fifth season. But before she became an official cast member, she filmed for over a month without pay.

She revealed in a YouTube interview that it was common practice back then, and potential Housewives had to “earn their right” to be on the show. However, she also suggested that things have changed now, and the “new girls” are no longer “tried and tested” in the same way.

She has a rocky relationship with her mother

Moore even studied psychology at university in an effort to understand “what was wrong” with her mother. Despite their stormy past, she expressed gratitude when her mother finally acknowledged her, according to Bravo.

Moore hasn’t had much luck with men. At 16, she got involved with an abusive predator 11 years older than her who she admits nearly killed her, per Essence. An older Moore got into a relationship with Matt Jordan, against whom she had to get a restraining order, according to TMZ.

In 2017, she married Marc Daly and had a daughter, Brooklyn Doris, after undergoing in vitro fertilisation treatment. She has said she was determined to “be the type of mum to my daughter that I never had”, People reported. However, the couple would get into “nasty” fights where she described her husband as showing an “alter-ego. from the depths of hell”.

The Dancing with the Stars alum was then linked to restaurateur Roi Shlomo in 2023.

She has a history of unpaid taxes

In 2018, the RHOA’s “Shade Assassin” was hit with a tax lien by the IRS for US$150,000 in unpaid taxes from 2016. This meant the government had a legal claim to her assets until the debt was settled. That lien was eventually released but, more recently, the reality TV star has been dealing with a court order from Fulton County in Georgia. This time, it’s for US$14,711.80 due from 2023, per In Touch.

Earlier in June, Moore launched Kenya Moore Hair Spa, but the grand opening was not what guests expected. As the Bravo cameras rolled, attendees were reportedly met with explicit posters of RHOA newbie Brittany Eady engaged in a sexual act. Eady was not present at the event, but there were rumours of her having subsequently threatened Moore with the mention of a “gun”, which a source later reportedly shut down. Moore took to Instagram to clarify, claiming she “would never engage in revenge porn” and, on a later Instagram Live, declared she was “not going anywhere despite all this stuff”.
