Four years ago, Christina Najjar was an unemployed writer who downloaded TikTok out of boredom and depression during the pandemic. Now known as Tinx, the self-professed “oldest girl on TikTok”, she has an estimated net worth of US$7.6 million, per Forbes, and over 1.5 million followers on TikTok at the time of writing.

Her popular and partly satirical series “Rich Mom” on the social media platform was just the beginning of an influencer empire which now includes books, podcasts and a fashion line. But just who is she – and how did she get this famous?

According to the New York Post, Tinx, now 33, was jobless at the time and living in LA. “I thought I was going to have to move home with my parents, and I was severely depressed,” she told Bustle. Exactly nine days after she downloaded TikTok, she posted a video of herself trying the famous Health Nut “shake salad” of Kardashian fame. The video garnered 2.2 million views – and the sudden social media fame changed Tinx’s life.

She’s a Stanford graduate

Tinx grew up in England and attended Stanford University, she told Vogue. She later attended Parsons and got a master’s degree in fashion journalism. She worked as a freelance writer and moved between San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.

According to Bustle, when Tinx made her first video, she knew she had found her calling. “It was truly a type of fulfilment I had never felt in work before, and I loved it. I knew I’d finally found my passion,” she said.

“TikTok’s big sister” and “Rich Moms”

She’s known as “TikTok’s big sister” who just might “make the agony aunt cool again”, according to Bustle. Tinx gained fame not only for her practical dating advice for women – she’s also down-to-earth, posting blooper content and giving fans a real look into her life.

Tinx also launched Rich Mom gear, a collection of leisurewear for her fans. Tinx often imitates actual rich mums on her TikTok; she’s described her content as “half satire, half aspirational”, per The New Yorker, and calls the concept of the Rich Mom a mindset. Bustle writes that Rich Mom is “the fantasy of being wealthy and settled”. Tinx herself is single and does not have children.

The Gwyneth Paltrow collab

The epitome of Rich Moms just might be Gwyneth Paltrow. The actress and businesswoman started following Tinx on TikTok, while the influencer has said she’s a Gwyneth superfan, per New York Post. As Tinx created her Rich Mom videos, one thing led to another and soon the two filmed a “Rich Mom of Brentwood” video together. “She’s the queen of Rich Moms. So it was genuinely the best day of my life. She’s so cool, so in on the joke … and best of all, she held the mini mic,” said Tinx.

When she first began posting videos, Tinx used a mini mic in all of them. The social media sensation has since been credited for popularising the use of mini mics in videos.

She now has a podcast and a book

Aside from her millions of TikTok followers, she is also signed with WME, the talent agency that represents Matt Damon and Christian Bale. She’s gone on to have big name partnerships with the likes of Chipotle and U Beauty, as well as producing sponsored content for Dior. She’s launched a podcast, It’s Me, Tinx on Sirius XM and her book, The Shift: A Guide to Dating, Self-Worth and Becoming the Main Character of Your Life has introduced her to scores of new fans.
