Netizens believe that Kesha may be having a dig at Katy Perry, after it was announced that the pop star has collaborated with disgraced producer Dr Luke on a new song.
“Lol,” the 37-year-old “Tik Tok” singer wrote cryptically on X not long after the rumoured collaboration between Perry and Dr Luke was revealed.

According to Us Weekly, Perry made the announcement of her first single, “Women’s World”, on Monday as part of her forthcoming era. The track is set for release on July 1, per the same source.

Kesha’s history with Dr Luke dates back to 2014, when she accused him of an alleged assault which took place in 2005, adds the source. Dr Luke denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit in response.

Here’s what we know about Dr Luke and his links to the world of pop:

Kesha isn’t the only celebrity who’s called out Dr Luke over the years. In 2017, Kelly Clarkson spoke out against her former collaborator too. She told Z100, “I think I’m a nice person, that’s apparent. It was just this one thing, and I asked not to work with Dr Luke just because I had not had a good experience with him. If an artist like me, I generally love everyone. You have to really be a special kind of … for me not to like you.”

P!nk also cut ties with the producer, per Vanity Fair. “I don’t know what happened,” she told The New York Times, referring to Kesha’s accusations. “But I know that regardless of whether or not Dr Luke did that, this is his karma and he earned it because he’s not a good person.”

Did Dr Luke win against Kesha?

After Kesha sued him in 2014 – with her lawyers claiming he had allegedly “sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abused [Kesha] to the point where [she] nearly lost her life”, the producer decided to file for defamation. In 2023, Kesha and Dr Luke finally reached a settlement.

The terms of their settlement were not released, according to the BBC, but Kesha wrote in a statement: “I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”

Meanwhile, Dr Luke’s statement read: “While I appreciate Kesha again acknowledging that she cannot recount what happened that night in 2005, I am absolutely certain that nothing happened,” he said.

“I never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone. For the sake of my family, I have vigorously fought to clear my name for nearly 10 years,” he added.
