  • Sabrina Carpenter showed her support to the LGBT community at her performance at New York’s Governors Ball music festival this Pride Month, singing, ‘People who hate pride can suck my gov balls’
  • But other stars like Paris Hilton, DaBaby, Donald Trump, J.K. Rowling and Dave Chappelle have all come under fire because of their derogatory comments

In the spirit of Pride Month, singer Sabrina Carpenter delivered a memorable performance at New York’s recent Governors Ball music festival on June 8.
It’s become Carpenter’s signature to craft a unique outro when performing her single “Nonsense” at each of her concerts, specifically tailoring it to shout-out specific locations or make cheeky references. Since June is Pride Month in many countries, Carpenter made it clear in her most recent outro that she doesn’t support those who are against the LGBTQ+ community, singing bluntly, “People who hate Pride can suck my gov balls.”

While some celebrities like Carpenter often use their platforms to uplift the LGBTQ+ community, not all stars are as inclusive, to say the least. Here are five notable celebrities who sparked backlash for making derogatory remarks or engaging in hate speech.

1. Paris Hilton

In 2012, Paris Hilton made derogatory comments about gay men, referring to them as “disgusting” and even suggesting that they probably have Aids. Her remarks were recorded during a conversation with a gay friend of hers while in a cab, and the clip was later leaked online.

Hilton faced major backlash and issued an apology on the same day, expressing remorse for causing pain to her gay friends and fans, and their families.

Hilton’s publicist confirmed the authenticity of the recording with CNN, and claimed that Hilton’s comments were meant to express concerns about unprotected sex, rather than being homophobic.

2. DaBaby
