Sara Ramírez is filing for divorce from their husband, Ryan DeBolt.

In court documents obtained by People earlier this month, the Grey’s Anatomy alum, 48, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their parting. Per the source, the former couple announced their separation three years ago, but hadn’t officially called it quits with a divorce – until now.

“Ryan and I are no longer together,” they wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post in 2021. “We remain loving and supportive in how we are choosing to forge our new individual paths.”

Ramírez has been in the news a lot lately. Earlier this year, they were reportedly dropped from the Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That …, with sources telling British media that their character Che Diaz no longer had value in the franchise after their split from Miranda Hobbes in the show.

Ramírez is notoriously private about their private life. They got married to DeBolt in 2012, at age 36. In an interview with Glamour in 2013, they said they met their husband at a time when they were “comfortable alone”. They also decided to be fully themself when they met their husband, rather than pretending to be someone else. “When you allow yourself to be seen, that’s what works in my experience,” they said.

Ramírez came out as bisexual in 2016 and announced they are non-binary in 2020, beginning to use they/them pronouns exclusively in 2021. But they have long been a leading voice for the LGBTQ+ community. They’ve spoken at True Colors Fund’s 40 to None Summit, a two-day event to help end homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth. They were also awarded the Ally for Equality Award by the Human Right Campaign Foundation in 2015 and the Trailblazers Award by the New York LGBT Centre in 2017.
