If you were a boy band fan back in the day, you’ll surely recognise Ronan Keating’s name. He burst onto the scene in the 90s with the Irish group Boyzone – alongside Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch. He has seven albums with Boyzone and 12 solo projects under his belt.

He shot to global fame with his song “When You Say Nothing at All”, which soared to the top of the charts in several countries after featuring in the movie Notting Hill, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

Now 47, Keating was just 16 when he joined Boyzone – he was its youngest member. According to Planet Radio, 21 of the group’s singles have landed in the UK Top 40 charts and 22 in the Irish charts. Boyzone also boasts five No 1 albums and an astonishing 25 million records sold globally.

Still, Keating has shared that he wasn’t loving the boy band journey at first: “I didn’t enjoy the first six years of the band because I was working too hard,” he told Metro.

When did Ronan Keating go solo?

Keating launched his solo career in 1999 while still part of Boyzone. His breakthrough came with his rendition of “When You Say Nothing at All” for Richard Curtis’ hit romcom Notting Hill, which catapulted him to the top of the UK singles charts, per Planet Radio. His first solo album, Ronan, followed in 2000, debuting at No 1. Since then, Keating has released 11 more studio albums.

Keating is married to Australian TV producer, fashion designer and blogger Storm Keating, 42, who he met while working on the Australian version of The X Factor, per Metro UK. The couple tied the knot in August 2015, in Scotland, with Ronan’s then-16-year-old son Jack serving as his best man.

This is Keating’s second marriage. In 1998, at age 21, he married Irish model and TV personality Yvonne Connolly, who’s now 50. The marriage unravelled in 2010 though when it was revealed Keating had been having an affair with one of his backing dancers, per British media.

Ronan is the proud father of five children. He shares three children with his first wife: Jack, 25, Marie, 23, and Ali, 18. He and Storm have two children together: Cooper, seven, and Coco, four.

Last year, Ronan became a grandfather at the age of 46, when his son Jack became the father of a baby girl.

Following the tragic loss of his brother Ciarán in a car accident in July 2023, Ronan wrote on Instagram that he was finding his brother’s death “difficult to make sense of”. Writing from a family holiday in South Africa, the heartbroken singer-songwriter opened up about the grief he was experiencing. “It has been the hardest time for us all, and everyone is trying to manage a life now without our brother (very hard to even type that),” he added on Instagram.

In June 2023, Keating announced he’d be joining TV talent show The Voice of Germany as a coach and judge. The Boyzone alum shocked the internet in April, however, by announcing on his social media that he wouldn’t be returning for a second season.
