Drake and Kanye West, compared: how do the rapper rivals make and spend their millions? From their net worths and fashion empires Yeezy and Ovo, to Cartier and Audemars Piguet watches, and cars
In 2023, Drake’s first solo single of the year “Search and Rescue” featured an audio clip of Kanye West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, speaking to her mum Kris Jenner about their divorce. That same year, the world witnessed West’s catastrophic fall from grace, with the rapper-turned-fashion designer’s name crossed off Forbes’ billionaire list. His falling out with business partner Adidas and loss of sponsorships had a significant impact on West’s net worth. According to Forbes, the star saw his net worth shrink from US$2 billion to US$400 million.
Back in 2010, Drake was spotted with West’s ex Amber Rose soon after the two broke up and, in 2011, the Canadian rapper said he wanted to be “better” than West. Throughout the past decade, the two have occasionally reached truces, but there appears to be no end in sight to their rivalry.
The feuding rappers have both been known to indulge in luxury fashion items, supercars and fine watches. Here, we look at how these music moguls spend their millions.
Gold Digger vs Hotline Bling: their watch collections
The Cartier Crash features an asymmetrical case that evokes Salvador Dalí’s melting clock. West’s rendition is a quiet classic – a yellow gold watch with a black alligator strap sans stones.
Their fashion empires, Yeezy and Ovo
West’s very public ousting from the fashion community slashed his net worth significantly over the past year. West, who founded the streetwear label Yeezy, collaborated with Nike in 2009 before taking his designs to Adidas in 2013, where he launched the Yeezy sneakers. His signature street-style look glamorised oversized sweats for an entire generation. He also collaborated with Gap in sold-out capsule collections.
Drake’s fashion brand Ovo – October’s Very Own – is almost instantly recognisable thanks to the musician’s fame as well as the brand’s quirky owl logo. It has put out a range of mostly casual streetwear.
Their supercar collections
Despite probably getting chauffeured around most of the time, both musicians have amassed substantial car collections. West reportedly owns everything from a very drivable Aston Martin DBS to a less practical million-dollar tank. One of the most unique cars in his collection is said to be a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with a whopping 1,000 horsepower and fitted with Hermès details. The price tag is equally impressive: West bought the car for US$2.4 million, per British media.
Rumoured to have a car collection worth upwards of US$10 million, Drake’s latest acquisition has a hefty price tag, as seen on his Instagram, but it isn’t the first thing you might think of when you imagine him cruising around in a supercar.
One of only 15 produced, the Brabus Crawler is built by the brand most often associated with the aftermarket modification of Mercedes-Benz. The turbocharged off-roader looks like a cross between a jeep and a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and, according to Brabus’ website, is priced at US$940,000.
- Drake has his own record label and fashion brand Ovo – October’s Very Own – while Ye lost his Yeezy partnerships with Gap and Adidas, which was partly why his net worth plummeted
- West and Drake both own impressive watches and cars, from the Cartier Crash to Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726, and Bugatti Veyron 16.4 to the unusual Brabus Crawler
