  • Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott both hail from Ireland, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are besties from childhood, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have always had some brotherly rivalry
  • Brad Pitt’s now-ex Angelina Jolie was rumoured to come in between him and George Clooney, while Steve Martin and Martin Short’s bromance predates Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building by decades

When you think about your favourite on-screen duos of all time, odds are the list includes a bromance or two. From buddy cop comedies to films about brotherly love, the best and most believable on-screen camaraderie stems from that which extends off-screen, too.

We break down seven celebrity bromances that are sure to stand the test of time, from the just-budding friendships to the decades-old.

It’s safe to say that 2023 was big for Irish actor Paul Mescal, who started the year with an Academy Award nomination for his role in Aftersun, and starred in the film Foe alongside fellow national treasure Saoirse Ronan.

But it was his star turn alongside another Irish countryman, Andrew Scott of Fleabag fame, in the December 2023 All of Us Strangers that really captured the internet’s attention.

From fanboying over one another in interviews to sharing plenty of intimate moments throughout the film, this budding bromance – between the actors best known for playing a hot, horny “normal” teenager and a “Hot Priest”, respectively – is certainly one that will last the test of time.

2. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman

These two Hollywood leading men have been in a friendly fake feud since 2009 – but they’re actually huge fans of one another. The actors met on the set of the hit film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which Jackman played the titular character.

In a 2020 interview with The Daily Beast, Jackman said, “I used to ream him because I was very close friends with Scarlett [Johansson], and Scarlett had just married Ryan, so when he came on set I was like, ‘Hey, you better be on your best behaviour here, pal, because I’m watching,’ and we started ribbing each other that way.”
