Here’s how the athlete turned into a mining magnate – and then a celebrity darling.
Wayne Boich is an astute businessman
According to his company profile, Boich, 48, is chairman and CEO of Boich Investment Group. He joined the company in 1999 and was instrumental in the firm’s success in mining operations in West Virginia and Kentucky. Boich has since maintained the company’s position as one of the world’s top-producing longwall (a form of underground coal mining) operations, with Rolling Stone writing that he has decades of experience in mining, energy and property. His real estate interests have extended to include hotels, commercial office buildings and multifamily residential developments across the US.
He’s a former tennis player
Boich began playing tennis when he was just five years old, using his family’s garage door to practise. According to Padel Magazine, the businessman quickly showed skill and, at age 12, was the No 1 junior tennis player in Florida, ranking nationally.
Per the publication, he spent much of his childhood travelling the world competing in tennis tournaments while adhering to a strict exercise regimen.
