  • As Prince William and Kate Middleton’s son enters his tween years, he’ll likely follow his dad, uncle Prince Harry and grand-uncle Prince Edward to the prestigious Eton College
  • With the absence of Queen Elizabeth, and Princes Andrew and Harry, George’s presence is even more in demand, with the little royal recently spotted at Wimbledon with Princess Charlotte

On July 22, the future king of Britain turns 10!

This is already a milestone for any child entering the double digits and ensuing tumultuous tween years, but the young prince is doing it in front of the whole world. George’s life has already been vastly different to his father Prince William when he was young. Sure, George is being groomed for the role he was born into, but it has been on slower terms.

From increased public appearances to becoming more confident and the breaking of traditions, here’s Prince George at age 10.

New traditions

Just before George’s milestone birthday, William and Kate reportedly decided to break with tradition, allowing George not to join the Armed Forces later in life.

According to British media, royal male heirs are expected to serve their country as an act of duty. But the younger royal couple have said that unless George expresses a desire to do so, he will not be forced.

British media also reported that the tradition is changing within the royal family overall, with members of the family being allowed to take on civilian roles. This means that George could decide to become a doctor and later become the king.

Historian Dominic Sandbrook added that things are different now compared to when Harry and William were children.
