The “Madman”
Lau’s journey to a thriving singing career – which started out with busking – has been filled with challenges. But his perseverance and dedication ultimately led him to win the best new performer gold prize at the 2020 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation.
It was his fourth solo single “A Madman’s Diary”, released in 2021, that truly catapulted him to fame. In an interview with AM730, the Cantopop star revealed that the progressive rock track was a tribute to the legendary band Queen and their iconic song “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The song garnered numerous awards, including a spot in the esteemed “Top 10 Songs” at the 2021 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation.
In the music video for his latest single “JM Single 9” – “9” meaning dog in Cantonese, Lau’s look was striking. Donning a baggy, straight-jacket – meets-harlequin-style outfit, eyeliner, pink blush and with blond tousled hair, his mad, clownish persona was something to behold.
