  • Black-and-white looks were ubiquitous on the red carpet of the 2023 Met Gala, worn by stars like K-pop idol Jackson Wang, Barbie actor Simu Liu, “It” girl Stephanie Hsu and Chinese supermodel Liu Wen
  • Song Hye-kyo looked chic in a Fendi two-piece, Sora Choi wore a Thom Browne ensemble that Karl Lagerfeld would’ve approved of, and Bling Empire’s Christine Chiu donned a red couture Chanel gown

This year’s Met Gala saw some of Asia’s favourite actors, models, sports stars and singers interpreting the 2023 theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. Celebrity fashion inspiration ranged from the designer’s almost uniform-like penchant for wearing exclusively black, the colour combination of black and white – a nod to his time at the design helm of Chanel – to pieces from Fendi, Balmain and Chloé that Lagerfeld had designed and worked with throughout the years of his illustrious career.

Here are 11 Asian celebrities rocking the best red carpet looks at the 2023 Met Gala.

1. Liu Wen

Dubbed by The New York Times as “China’s first bona fide supermodel”, Liu was crowned one of the best dressed of the night by fashion bible Maire Claire. She graced the Met Gala red carpet in a stunning custom-made Tory Burch black-and-white tulle gown with hand-stitched silk camellias – a nod to Lagerfeld’s reimagining of the flower, which became a key staple in Chanel designs and is still used to this day.

2. Nichapat Suphap

Vogue Thailand’s contributing editor and luxury fashion consultant Nichapat Suphap can be spotted on the front row at all major Asian and global fashion shows. In fact, she’s becoming so prominent in the fashion sphere that she became the first-ever Thai guest to walk the Met Gala red carpet in 2018. This year, Suphap wowed in a stunning custom-made Louis Vuitton black-and-white gown with a flowing train. Her long black gloves and simple chignon bun were also elegant throwbacks to the 1950s.
