Lee’s early foray into the K-pop industry was through Mnet’s Produce 101, a reality idol survival show series where 101 K-pop trainees compete to be selected in the final lineup of an 11-member boy group. The show is behind idol group Wanna One.

Per Billboard, Lee was a trainee under Pan Entertainment when he auditioned for Produce 101 in 2017.
